StreetLib Stories: Jessica Maccario

 In StreetLibers community

Jessica Maccario published La spada degli elfi (Literal translation: the elves’ sword) through StreetLib services. The following letter was written (originally in Italian) freely by the author to share her publishing and StreetLiber’s experience as part of our StreetLib Stories initiative.

Thanks for the contribution, Jessica!

My name is Jessica, I’m almost 25 years old and I started publishing books about a year and half ago. My first book was picked out by a publisher during a writing competition but I decided to go with self publishing.

I chose to publish with StreetLib (Narcissus at the time) to allow my fantasy novel “La spada degli elfi” to reach more readers, thanks to the wide selection of their partner bookstores. It’s been exactly 15 days since I uploaded the file and cover, after long months of writing and an editing period that took me from November 2014 to February 2015.
I am satisfied with the fact that it was released on Amazon in less than 24 hours and I’m confident that it’ll be up on every other websites within the month.

The most difficult part is for sure the promotion: to reach readers you need not only to publicize but also to keep a relationship with your followers. I have a website I use as a window front to show my novels, with updates, pictures and events to which I participate (you can go to my website here), a Twitter profile where I report my news (@JessicaMaccario) and a Facebook page dedicated to the books I wrote and the ones I read and loved, where you can also find my brief reviews. On Facebook I deal with a lot of groups and frequent contacts with readers and authors: you can freely write to me to talk about our common passion that is the book! I always loved reading, you could discuss books with me for hours.

I have a good relationship with authors because I think collaboration between ourselves is very important: I got to know fantastic ladies, most of them also mothers, who taught me a lot, spurred me into action and helped me with golden advices. In turn, I’ve been a beta-reader, evaluating manuscripts for publishing houses and helping aspiring authors asking me for indications on this complex and fascinating world.

I have now published two fantasy novels, a contemporary romance and diverse short stories: if you’d like to have a conversation, if you read my book and want to give me your opinion… you know where to find me! 🙂
